Penn State police issue update on Jason Kelce after finding fan involved in phone-smashing incident.

Posted: 2024-11-8

Penn State police are struggling to identify the young man who got into a confrontation with ESPN's Jason Kelce before Saturday's game against visiting Ohio State.

Kelce - who was on campus to appear on ESPN's College GameDay - was walking through a crowd of people when one man called his brother Travis a 'f*****' for dating Taylor Swift

Jason responded by grabbing the fan's phone, smashing it on the ground, kicking it away from the fan and yelling back: 'Who's the f****t now?'

A University spokesperson told TMZ they have not identified the man. Furthermore, no one has come forward to give any tips. Penn State's chief of police and public safety as well as the school's police deputy did not immediately return DailyMail.com's request for more information.

While Kelce went viral for breaking a fan's phone immediately after that homophobic remark, campus police told Page Six on Saturday that no incident report has been filed on the matter.

As seen in footage of the incident, Kelce picked up the fan's phone and walked away with it after smashing it, leading the fan to chase him down and say 'give me my phone.'

It is unclear whether the phone belonged to the male who made the disparaging comment about Travis.

One Instagram user with the handle @DONNYWRLD1 recorded footage of the man following after Kelce outside Beaver Stadium.

'You pussy-a** b****,' the younger man is heard yelling. 'Get that on camera.'

The former Eagles center, who is now an analyst for ESPN, was praised by many on social media, with one calling him 'an icon' for his reaction to the fan.

However, at least one Philadelphia media member slammed the city legend for his actions, as Jon Marks of PHLY Sports insisted, 'He can't be spiking people's phones'.

'Kelce has to realize that his profile is bigger than it ever was as a player,' he wrote on X.

'He's making big $ across multiple platforms and his brother might marry the biggest pop star ever. He can't be spiking people's phones. He needs security to deal with this s***'.'

Jason Kelce shared the one thing he regretted about his interaction with a Penn State fan

Jason addressed the incident on Monday Night Countdown briefly, but went into greater detail in the newest episode of his 'New Heights' podcast.

'I'm going to address it because I feel it needs one more time and then hopefully we can stop talking about this really stupid situation that occurred,' Jason began.

'I'm not happy about the situation. Me reacting gave him the time of day and it also gave this situation notoriety, which I regret.

'It didn't deserve attention. It's really stupid and if I just keep walking it's a f***ing nothing burger. Nobody sees it. Now, it's out there and it just perpetuates more hate.

'The thing that I regret the most is saying that word to be honest with you. The word he used is just f***ing ridiculous and takes it to another level. It's just off the wall and f***ing over the line. It's dehumanizing and got under my skin.

Travis then weighed in with his own thoughts and backed up his brother while hitting out at the fan.

The Kansas City Chiefs star said: 'I know it's weighing on you brother. It sucks. You shouldn't feel this much, obviously the scrutiny and the media view on it and people passing around the videos that are out there.

Campus police are actively investigating the incident, after an initial statement read that no report had been filed .

ESPN also decided not to punish Kelce for his words , especially after he offered an on-air apology.
